Gainsbourg et Cavegn
For the past five years, advertising professional, illustrator, and artist Markus Cavegn has been making his mark on Zurich’s nightlife. In November, he will open an exhibition at the Gainsbourg Bar.
His paintings and drawings appear everywhere, as bitter commentaries and black-humored reflections on Zurich's current affairs. He scribbles them directly on wine labels, paints canvases or covers picture frames with paper, and hangs his works in bars. His ideas are spontaneous interventions. Sometimes dadaistic, sometimes unmaskingly direct, but always with a sharp pen and extra-black ink. Often the materials used are as spontaneous as they are sensible. Here, too, they are taken directly from life. Cavegn also sometimes uses red wine or Tipp Ex for his works. And if his theme is the 2.1 kilos of cocaine that are flushed down our Limmat every day, pure snow is used for the corresponding caricature.
For the exhibition in the Gainsbourg Bar, Markus Cavegn has created 19 paintings and various objects especially. The unpredictable, provocative and witty Frenchman would have had his fun with them.
