Doodle: Michael Brecht becomes CEO

Michael Brecht will become the new managing director of Doodle effective February 1, 2014. CEO Michael Näf and CTO Paul E. Sevinç will gradually step down from their management roles. Tamedia will acquire a majority stake in 2014 as planned.

The two founders Michael Näf and Paul E. Sevinç have established Doodle as the global market leader in recent years, have been profitable for a long time, and were able to double profits again in 2013 compared to the previous year. Tamedia took a 49 per cent stake in Doodle back in 2011. In the course of 2014, Tamedia will take over the majority in Doodle as planned and invest in the further international expansion of the service. In parallel, Doodle CEO Michael Näf and CTO Paul E. Sevinç will gradually relinquish management this year and turn to new professional challenges.

According to the statement, the new Doodle CEO Michael Brecht has more than 20 years of experience in the IT and online world and has held various international positions. After working as Managing Director at the German IT company Compunet, where he was responsible for building up the company's UK business, he went on to found Urbia.com in Germany - an online portal for families and children that has since been sold to Gruner & Jahr. After a longer stay in Australia, Brecht founded and managed 52weine.de, a shopping club for wines.

In his future work for Doodle, Michael Brecht will work closely with the Doodle management team, which has been contributing to the success story of the web company for several years: He will be supported by Sales Manager Tiziano Obrecht, Malte Schiebelmann as Head of Product Management, and Christoph Bäni, who moves up to Doodle Development Manager, taking over the relevant tasks from Paul E. Sevinç.
