Corporate Newsroom: The figures

CORPORATE NEWSROOM More and more companies and government agencies are organizing their communications departments into what are known as corporate newsrooms. In a survey, the Institute for Applied Media Studies at ZHAW sought to determine the significance of these newsrooms at present.Following the example of journalistic newsrooms, more and more companies have recognized their advantages and set them up within their own organizations. Are these so-called corporate newsrooms growing in popularity? The IAM of the ZHAW investigated this question in a survey. At the end of April, 140 companies and 85 administrations were contacted and asked to take part in an online survey on the topic of corporate newsrooms. By 31 May, respondents from 96 organizations had started the online questionnaire (66 companies, 30 administrations). 77 organizations answered the question of whether they have a corporate newsroom. 20 of the 77 organizations that provided information on the status of implementation of a corporate newsroom stated that they had already introduced one. A further 15 organizations, 14 of which were companies, also expressed the intention to organize their communication in a corporate newsroom in the next 18 months.

Companies that have a corporate newsroom

For example, ten organizations state that they have a corporate newsroom, but only have one or two newsroom-typical features. At the same time, the five criteria defined as newsroom-typical are now apparently so relevant in the organization of communication that they can also be found in organizations that claim not to have a newsroom. For example, six organizations can be identified that have four or even all five characteristics, but claim not to have a corporate newsroom.
