Corporate Forum Best of 2010

The jury of Europe's largest corporate communications competition selected 177 winners from among 600 entries. Switzerland took home 3 gold and 15 silver awards.

The BCP (Best of Corporate Publishing) is considered the showcase for innovation in the corporate publishing market. This year, the jury said it was «impressed by the superbly executed cross-media concepts, bold covers, and exceptional feature stories.» The digital submissions, in particular, reflected current CP trends with creative videos, iPhone apps, and new digital magazine formats.
Orchestrated media strategies across all channels and the intelligent management of various communication channels are the key challenges for many publishers. «The BCP submissions have clearly shown just how impressively corporate publishers are already implementing this intelligent integration,» says Michael Höflich, Managing Director of the Forum Corporate Publishing. The BCP awards are presented in 29 categories. The main sponsor, Steinbeis-Papier, presents a special «Green Publishing» award. LinguaKraft Language and Transatlantic Translations honor international communication concepts. The publisher Deutscher Drucker and the Media Producers Association recognize publications with outstanding print finishing. The Corbis photo agency is awarding the «Cover of the Year» special prize for the first time. All awards were presented on June 30 following the BCP Congress at the Grand Élysée in Hamburg and are currently listed at www.bcp-award.com. As a jury member, *Werbewoche* is already able to present the Swiss winners here.

The competition jury consists of approximately 130 experts from the fields of journalism, art direction, marketing, and corporate communications, divided into jury groups. Jury I and Jury II each consist of about 50 members who evaluate all submitted publications. The shortlist is determined based on the average of the scores from both juries. All of these nominees are awarded silver. Jury III, consisting of 30 members, then selects the gold winners and the special prize recipients. Fifteen entries from Switzerland were awarded silver. Three made it to gold. The Zurich-based agency Infel earned gold for the third consecutive year with its publication «Energy Forum,» which instead resulted in a «Hall of Fame» special award.
Digital CP on the Rise
The importance of digital media in corporate publishing is growing: 88 percent of all companies in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland use electronic formats for customer and employee communication. They invest 1.6 billion euros annually in this area. Total revenue for the corporate publishing industry amounts to approximately 4.5 billion euros. The annual budget for digital corporate publishing media averages 132,000 euros per company, accounting for 38 percent of the average budget of 350,000 euros for all customer and employee communications. These findings come from a study conducted by the Swiss market research institute Zehnvier on behalf of the European Institute for Corporate Publishing and the Forum Corporate Publishing. This forum brings together approximately 100 CP providers from German-speaking countries. The forum is Europe’s largest association of CP service providers.
According to these experts, cross-media concepts will «continue to gain importance.» Nearly 70 percent of companies view cross-media communication strategies as one of the most important developments in corporate publishing. However, this continued growth will «not come at the expense of print budgets.» In the future, print will play an important role as a «navigation tool» and a driver of new channels.
