Büro Strebel: Homely design for the Hotel Valsana

Büro Strebel created the appearance of the new building of the Arosa Hotel Valsana.

The old Valsana was built in 1901 and was therefore a "veteran" of the Arosa hotel industry. In 1982, it was taken over by the Tschuggen Hotel Group and successfully continued to be run. However, the ravages of time were taking their toll on the old building and the decision was made to demolish the hotel and replace it with a new building.

With the new building, an innovative operating and gastronomy concept was also developed under the motto "Uncomplicated luxury". The new Valsana is designed to meet the demands of modern, discerning vacationers: They are looking for relaxation and comfort, in an informal atmosphere, without the "rituals" or services of the classic grand hotel, which are sometimes perceived as stiff.

Both the lobby and the hotel's own restaurant "Twist" are intended to become a meeting place for vacation guests and locals alike. This is ensured not only by a cosy interior with wing chairs and an open fireplace, but also by an entertainment program with films, concerts and readings. The "Valsana" is set to become Arosa's living room, so to speak.

The central idea of the "living room" has also been incorporated into the design of the visual identity developed by Büro Strebel. Elements that are normally found in the living room, such as fabric and wallpaper patterns, newspapers, drawings, sheet music, records, letters, books and coins, were placed on the advertising materials. The menu thus becomes a magazine, the beer mat a penny or the matchstick a stamp. The result is a playful appearance that is as colorful and varied as the hotel's guests themselves.

Responsible at Tschuggen Hotel Group: Götz Bechtolsheimer (overall responsibility); Corinne Denzler (CEO); Katherina Hauss (Marketing Director). Responsible at Büro Strebel: Robin Strebel, Arabella Lutz (creation); Esther Kümin, Gian Marco Juon (consulting).
