FOPH drops second phase of planned booster campaign

Nothing comes of the planned second phase of the booster campaign. The Federal Office of Public Health has decided not to carry out the campaign, citing the very rapid spread of the Omikron variant as the reason.

BAGAt the request of the news agency Keystone-SDA, the FOPH confirmed a corresponding report from Blick.ch Thursday. Because of Omikron and its very rapid spread, the agency had felt compelled to make adjustments in an even shorter time and in a more flexible manner. Therefore, before the start of the second phase of the campaign, it was decided "that it would not be effective as planned and therefore should not be implemented."

The first phase of the campaign will end at the end of the week. At the center of the campaign was an explanatory video on the FOPH website. The FOPH has been using excerpts of the video to promote booster vaccination on various social media channels since January 19. A short version is currently also being produced in five other migration languages and can thus also be used by these communities, the FOPH stated in its response to the inquiry.

According to the latest figures released Thursday by the FOPH, 39.83 percent of the total population and 74.57 percent of those over 65 have received booster vaccinations to date. (SDA)
