Three awards for Process at the German Design Award 2018

The jury of the German Design Award 2018 recognizes three works by Process. The vonSalis brand identity and the rebranding for Lehrmittelverlag Zürich - LMVZ each receive a "Winner" award. The wine bottles for the Graubünden wine merchant vonSalis win a "Special Mention".

Every year, the German Design Award honors innovative and groundbreaking communication design. It is one of the most recognized design competitions in the world and enjoys a high reputation far beyond specialist circles. The award honors the commitment of companies and designers for particularly successful design solutions.

vonSalis brand identity

As vonSalis operates under the same name as both a wine merchant and a winemaker, the positioning both internally and externally was unclear. The aim of the rebranding was to bring clarity to the communication. In order for both senders to exploit their full potential, the communication situations must be differentiated: Either the wine merchant is speaking or the winemaker and their own wines. This idea also manifests itself in the design.

Depending on the situation, the dynamic logo is either a symbol or a flexible stage. Stories, products and messages about wine play out on this stage. The result is a lively appearance that is entirely in keeping with the spirit of the new brand. VonSalis acts as a trailblazer, partner and expert, opening up access to wine and making it uncomplicated. "The focus is on wine" is also the claim.

LMVZ brand identity

Lehrmittelverlag Zürich (LMVZ) has not pursued a conscious brand strategy in recent years. The company was sure of its orders from the canton. In the meantime, the market environment has changed and become more competitive. As part of its strategic realignment, the LMVZ must and wants to be more active and needs-oriented. To achieve this, the publishing house needs a strong brand and its own brand strategy.

The modular design and the characteristic design elements are also effective in moving communication. The logo lettering with the horizontal lines is reminiscent of a bookshelf or the measuring units of a scale. On the one hand, this creates a link to the core business of textbooks, while the measuring units also symbolize the growth of learners in a metaphorical sense.

In Maienfeld, Jenins, Malans and Zizers, there are always very characteristic decorations on both historic and newer buildings. They are called sgraffiti and are part of the regional building culture. The motifs decorating portals, windows and gables are mostly abstract.

A characteristic sgraffito motif was identified for each of the four wine regions and used as a differentiating basic component for the design. The coding for the individual wine types and price categories results in simple, authentic graphic compositions.
