"CMO of the Year": Marco Greco puts Ochsner Sport in top form

With a commitment to differentiation, a consistently customer-centric mindset, and award-winning campaigns, Marco Greco has repositioned Ochsner Sport. Now, the Head of Marketing has been named a finalist for the title «CMO of the Year 2025.» The award recognizes outstanding achievements in the Swiss marketing landscape—and Greco’s name is synonymous with impactful change.

Positioning with profile

Ochsner Sport was once a classic sports supermarket. Today, the brand presents itself as an omnichannel sports specialist with a clear profile - thanks to a consistent realignment and premiumization under Marco Greco. Despite intensified competition, Ochsner Sport was able to clearly expand its position as market leader. And not only in terms of brand awareness, top-of-mind and competence perception, but also in terms of market share.

He has been responsible for marketing at the traditional brand since 2019, having previously worked in omnichannel retail marketing and now has over 20 years of experience in this area.

His recipe for success: a deep understanding of customers and the market, an innovative mindset Formats and a team that is passionate about the brand. "Only employees who are fans of the brand themselves can authentically pass on this enthusiasm," says Greco.

Award-winning campaigns and creative formats

The past year was particularly eventful - and successful - for Marco Greco and his team. With "La beauté du sport" launched an emotionally charged campaign around the Olympic Games in Paris. The winter sports campaign "The mountain" impressively showcased the national affinity for skiing. The integration of 24 SportX branches including over 400 employees was accompanied by a powerful opening campaign.

Further highlights: the running community "Runday Monday", the OCHSNER SPORT Zurich Marathon, the Sportcast Switzerland with over 100,000 listeners per episode and the most recent WEURO 2025 campaignwhich significantly strengthens the visibility of women's football. All of this is supported by targeted investments in service tools, customer inspiration technologies and strong testimonials.

The course is also paying off economically: In addition to gaining market share, CLUB's share of sales was higher than ever before - clear evidence of brand loyalty and relevance. In addition, the creative and measurably effective performance of the last twelve months has been recognized several times, for example with Gold at the Effie, Gold at the Edi as well as two ADC Gold Cubes and an Evergreen.

Marketing between statistics and storytelling

Greco knows how to combine brand experience and purpose. This is demonstrated by the campaign platform "Switzerland is our sports ground"which signals customer proximity and social responsibility. With tools such as ski boot fitting, dynamic running analysis or the Dual Jerseys Ochsner Sport is bringing innovation to every touchpoint for the European Championships.

Greco describes his role with a wink as a mixture of "statistics professor and storyteller". Stories have to be told again and again, he says - with creativity, but based on reliable data.

A role model for the industry

The Award «CMO of the Year» recognizes CMOs who stand out for their vision, customer focus, innovative strength and leadership. Marco Greco fulfills these criteria to a high degree - and is an example of marketing that not only has an impact in terms of KPIs, but also in a social context. We will find out who wins the 2025 title on August 21.
