20 cakes for Maxomedia

On September 8, 2016, the Bern-based full-service agency Maxomedia celebrated its 20th anniversary and looked back on an eventful period

Started as a two-man operation in a student room, the agency now employs 44 people. Right from the start, the company focused on cross-media communication solutions - which was a revolutionary approach in the mid-1990s.

In the year the agency was founded, the Internet was just taking off to turn the advertising market and the publishing industry upside down. New technical possibilities turned communication into a dialog. Advertising became more diverse and gradually conquered the digital world. Maxomedia has relied on cross-media marketing since day one and has thus not only been able to gain a lot of experience over the past two decades, but above all has been able to set new trends time and again.

With the drive of young people and the experience of adults

A good mix of young, creative and experienced minds ensures that Maxomedia can continue to break new ground in its 21st year of existence. For example, Bernhard Herzig, a founding member at the time, is still on board today and has headed the agency as CEO since 2013. "In the early days, we had no concrete plan of where we would ever be in 10 or even 20 years. We planned and built step by step," Herzig says. Today, the average age of employees is still under 30. The youthful drive ensures that the agency has lost none of its agility in all its years. The trump card is short distances between creation, development and consulting, made possible by the co-creation and co-working approach. "This allows us to design a lot of new things in-house and act quickly. An advantage that is appreciated by customers," says Herzig.

Celebrated with customers and employees

The party was held in the city's famous Bierhübeli. It was ideally suited to the occasion. Like Maxomedia, the traditional Bernese pub has lost none of its freshness despite its long history. Around 55 guests found their way to Neubrückstrasse. Bernhard Herzig welcomed them by comparing Maxomedia to a mosaic. Like a tile picture, the agency is made up of individual colorful stones. Employees, customers as well as various events made the agency what it is today. Milestones in awarding were the first "Best of Swiss Web Award" in 2005 and a lion in Cannes 2013 in the category Cyber. But employees have also left their own mark on the agency. These include Roman Hirsbrunner, current CEO of Jung von Matt/Limmat, who founded the agency together with Herzig.

Setting new standards in the future as well

Above all, Maxomedia wants to grow qualitatively. This includes constantly setting new themes. "We are well positioned in the field of interaction and user experience design. We are also working with a partner on a new service that evaluates usage data on the web in real time. This opens up unimagined possibilities in terms of communication. It provides us with important information for implementing our content strategy in the short and medium term. So we will continue to set new standards in the future. But for us to succeed again and again, we must above all have speed and courageous customers. We have both," says Herzig.
