Last but not least: Unfair Oscar advertising for the "pain box"
A week before the Oscars were to be awarded, it was reported that one of the producers of the favorite, «The Hurt Locker,» had allegedly pressured the jury to vote for his film.
According to the Los Angeles Times, producer Nicola Chartier wrote an email to the jurors asking them to vote for his film and not for "that 500 million dollar movie". He was referring to the other big favorite, the 3D movie "Avatar". Chartier is said to have already apologized for his letter. Nevertheless, the producer is now facing consequences. The competition will be pleased. Because "Avatar" by James Cameron is nominated for nine Oscars, as is "The Hurt Locker" by his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow. So is this unfair advertising, or just a bad side blow in the marriage war? Who cares? The jury certainly doesn't. The Academy will perhaps issue a statement after the vote. However, sanctions are already being discussed behind closed doors, as SDA writes. So far, the Oscar jurors have shown themselves to be very sensitive in such situations. The producers of "Tiger and Dragon" are said to have already gotten into trouble because they submitted a DVD and a video cassette of their film to the jury instead of just one format, as prescribed.
