Last but not least: Udo Jürgens' merciless reckoning with the digital world
Udo Jürgens, who once sang leisurely about New York, Greek wine, and cream, is now showing his socially critical side and taking a hard look at the digital world in a new song.
For example, the naked scanners at the airport, the tax evader CDs and Facebook have nothing to laugh about: "At the airport, you'll be scanned right down to your big toe, and your bank account details will soon be available on CD, the only thing missing is your liver values on Facebook." And villain Google doesn't get off scot-free either: "The world is a Google, nothing remains secret anymore, whether it's your apartment, house or garden, everyone is looking into it." Even Twitter is not spared by the pop star: "You tweet very openly, you reveal everything about yourself, the biggest crap, the smallest shit."
Well, it's understandable that this modern computer gizmo is a bit much for a 76-year-old gentleman. But does that mean you have to write a song about it? And if you do it anyway, do you have to rhyme so badly that it constricts all your senses when you read/listen to it? And why does Mr. Jürgens have his own Facebook pagewhen he thinks Facebook is so stupid? Questions upon questions that only the artist himself can answer.
