Last but not least: order is fun
Through creative initiatives, the organization Hubbub encourages Londoners to keep their streets clean.
In many places, draconian penalties are imposed for littering. In Switzerland, too, depending on the canton, fines of up to 200 francs are imposed if litter is simply thrown away. However, the effectiveness of the threat of heavy fines is called into question - especially when the penalties are rarely imposed anyway due to the disproportionately high costs involved. It is better if people behave correctly of their own accord. Some people are "inherently" inhibited from simply throwing litter on the street. Others may not be aware of the consequences, but can be motivated to contribute to a clean environment with the right approach.
Hubbub is doing this in London in a rather refreshing way. The #neatstreets campaign takes a positive approach: for example, emotional questions can be voted on using cigarette butts. Is Messi or Ronaldo better? Who will win the next London derby? The organization also encourages passers-by to stick their chewing gum on posters instead of on the street. Clean! (hae)

Neat Streets - using playful design to tackle littering
Can a bit of fun and playful design stop people from littering? Our public polling discovered that a staggering 86% of people think littering is a disgusting habit yet only 15% of us would actually confront someone and tell them that. Our 'Neat Streets' campaign in central London uses the latest thinking on behavior change and awareness raising from around the world to trial a new approach to tackling littering on Villiers Street, Westminster. From talking and burping bins to flash mobs and voting ash trays, we've tested a lot - have a look!FILMING: Story Culture, www.storyculture.co.uk
