Delete, delete, delete

Inactive accounts should be deleted. A Dutch campaign sings it to our ears once again.

Since "Last but not least" from June 5, 2016 ("Big Data Takedown"), the topic is at least no longer new to us. But it is quickly forgotten. The principle would be simple: instead of letting profiles that are no longer needed slowly rot away in data heaven, it would be better to delete them quickly. Not (only) for reasons of data protection or charity towards the providers who have to keep the profiles alive for no reason. Above all, they waste energy pointlessly. At a time when saving energy should be the order of the day. The garbage data continues to be hosted and backed up. Negligible in individual cases, but unfortunately no longer in large quantities. It's a bit like democracy: a single vote makes no difference, but still has a huge impact.

There are also countless accounts on Twitter. Students of the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam have implemented a campaign idea for this - at a professional level. Under the direction of Creative Director Dagan Cohen and Art Director Mick Jongeling has the singer Joia Rath composed a song with inactive Twitter profiles. By the way, the bird corpses really exist and are in the profile @twittersong linked. Unfortunately, the background to the work cannot be googled. But to be on the safe side, our verdict: passed!
