Gambling addiction in sports betting: with Köbi Kuhn in Swiss football stadiums
Over the weekend, 16 cantons in German-speaking Switzerland launched a campaign to raise awareness about gambling addiction in sports betting. The focus is on soccer, which attracts the most betting activity. With Köbi Kuhn and the support of various soccer clubs, the campaign aims to raise awareness among a broad audience about the dangers of problematic betting behavior.

Emotions, thrills, passion. Football captivates many people both as a sport and as a betting offer. Figures show that major events such as the World Cup in particular attract many new bettors to betting offers. Turnover in the sports betting market is growing. The downside: some players lose control of their betting behavior, accumulate gambling debts and suffer from physical or psychological complaints. Relationships with family and friends or professional life can also become unbalanced.
The awareness campaign launched at the weekend by Sos-spielsucht.ch draws attention to the risks of problematic behavior in sports betting. It is aimed specifically at a football-loving audience - the sport where most bets are placed. A well-known personality, Köbi Kuhn, has been recruited as a football ambassador. A video clip produced with him, together with the story of a person affected, addresses the problems that arise when betting fever gets out of hand.
Thanks to the commitment of six Swiss-German Super League clubs (FC Basel, FC Lucerne, FC Thun, FC St. Gallen, GC Zurich, FC Zurich), the clip was shown or will be shown for the first time in Swiss football stadiums last weekend or next weekend. And from now on during live broadcasts on television and online. The impressive story of former addict André (36) was also posted as a video portrait on Sos-spielsucht.ch. The campaign is part of the gambling addiction prevention program being carried out by Addiction Switzerland and Perspektive Thurgau on behalf of 16 German-speaking Swiss cantons (AG, BE, BL, BS, LU, NW, OW, SO, UR, ZG, AI, AR, GL, GR, SG, TG). The campaign is being conceived and implemented by Feinheit. GetSomePopcorn is responsible for the video production.
