Free and regional churches launch guerrilla campaign in the style of Luther

On October 31, 1517, the young theologian Martin Luther published 95 theses on the renewal of the church. On the initiative of the Swiss Evangelical Alliance SEA, Christians are calling for a new Reformation with a guerrilla campaign.

In around 140 locations throughout German-speaking Switzerland, groups were out and about in the early hours of Tuesday morning putting up 10,000 posters on public buildings and walls. Martin Luther is also said to have posted his 95 theses on the door of the castle church in Wittenberg in a similar campaign. The volunteers from regional and free churches took the anniversary of Luther's posting of his theses as an opportunity to bring the central questions of life and faith into public discussion in a creative way. The posters refer to the four principles of Luther's theology - the so-called four solos.

On the anniversary of the publication of the theses, it is time to talk again about the content of the Christian faith, said those responsible in a press release. This is exactly what the campaign #Thesis stop2 reach.

Matthias Spiess, initiator of the campaign and General Secretary of the SEA, says: "It's about a reformation of the heart. Luther's theses called into question the church practices of the time and brought the essential points of the Christian faith back into focus." Luther brought faith into people's everyday lives and changed structures that had been in place for years. The guerrilla campaign wanted to bring this concern back into people's hearts in an unconventional way.

Luther's theology became known for its four principles: "solus Christus" (Jesus Christ alone), "sola gratia" (by grace alone), "sola fide" (by faith alone) and "sola scriptura" (the Bible alone). The # thesis proposal2 is based on this and presents four thematically appropriate theses for discussion. Common clichés are taken up and supplemented with new content to draw attention to the anniversary of the posting of the theses.
