Bilateral Migration Map: stark+vernetzt and evoq bring the EU treaties to life
Just in time for the summer season, the Zurich-based agency evoq has developed a hiking map for the «stark+vernetzt» alliance that features nine routes along Switzerland’s bilateral trails.

With a bilateral hiking map, the «stark+vernetzt» alliance makes the relationship between Switzerland and the European Union literally walkable. It was developed by the Zurich-based agency evoq—nine routes wind through all regions of the country and illustrate what the bilateral agreements actually mean in everyday life.
Nine Routes, Nine Bilateral Experiences
«stark+vernetzt» is a broad alliance of local business and political leaders that advocates for stable relations with the EU and the bilateral approach. The bilateral hiking map, designed by evoq on behalf of the alliance, uses the metaphor of Switzerland’s well-developed network of hiking trails: just as the country is crisscrossed by hiking trails, the bilateral agreements connect Switzerland with Europe.

Each of the nine hikes focuses on a specific theme. In the Jura, the route takes hikers through the watchmaking industry—a sector that was originally co-founded by French immigrants and their expertise and that still relies on skilled workers from abroad today, according to the press release. In northwestern Switzerland, the ViaRhenana leads to the «Star of Laufenburg,» where the European power grid was co-founded in 1958. The planned Bilateral Agreements III are intended to place the historically developed cooperation for a secure power supply on a stable foundation. In eastern Switzerland, the Lake Constance Hiking Trail illustrates how Kreuzlingen and Konstanz have grown into a single community—with shared infrastructure such as the Konstanz wastewater treatment plant.

Handy: Map with QR code and smartphone navigation
The printed hiking map shows starting and ending points, describes points of interest along the way, and provides information on the duration, length, and elevation changes of the hikes. QR codes on the map link to an online version of each route that can be accessed via smartphone—including real-time location tracking. The website and online maps were developed by the Lucerne-based agency Netnode.

evoq also created a series of online advertising materials for use on social media channels and news portals. The printed card is available to interested companies and organizations in a dispenser or can be ordered individually on the Allianz website.
