More than half of Swiss social media users use Instagram
A recent survey shows: Facebook remains the strongest social network in Switzerland, but Instagram is catching up.
Since 2015, the number of Instagram users in Switzerland has tripled. This is shown by a recent survey by eMarketer. More than half (52.7%) of social media users in this country, or 1.9 million people, visit the platform regularly in 2018.
eMarketer expects the user base to grow by 14 percent this year. By 2022, nearly 60 percent of all social media users are expected to use Instagram at least once a month. Although Instagram is spreading rapidly in Switzerland, the social network still lags far behind the popularity of its parent Facebook. More than 83 percent of all Swiss social media users are logged on to Facebook in 2018.
"As in many markets around the world, Instagram is seeing a strong uptick in Switzerland," said eMarketer analyst Eric Haggstrom. "The social network has become popular for its features like Stories, photo filters and videos. This shows the general trend in social media toward sharing primarily visual content." In Switzerland, he said, Instagram use is also boosted by the proliferation of smartphones and access to fast Internet on the go.
