Heineken launches digital trading card: free beer via app

Heineken Switzerland is the first Swiss brewer to launch a digital beer passport for the Calanda, Eichhof, Haldengut and Heineken brands. The product is the result of collaboration with the software company Poinz.

The principle is simple and based on the fact that today there is a smartphone in every pocket. The user has to install an app and, thanks to geotracking, the smartphone shows the nearest Heineken outlet that is participating in the beer pass. There, the customer asks for the QR code to go with the beer and scans it using the mobile app. This credits one point to the digital collection card. Every 15th beer is free. There are also various prizes to be won when collecting points.

For the implementation of the digital beer pass, Heineken Switzerland relied on the Zurich-based startup Poinz. Today, 500,000 people already use its app for offers from over 1,500 stores.

But there's a catch for beer lovers who like to collect: the promotion is limited in time and runs only until the end of September. (pd/hae)
