These topics will shape the digital industry in 2017
Shortly before the turn of the year, the German Digital Economy Association (BVDW) provides an overview of the issues that will have a decisive impact on the digital economy in the coming year.

To this end, the association asked the chairs of its committees to vote. 22 digital experts from the focus groups and specialist groups with a wide range of key topics took part in the survey conducted in December 2016 and defined what they considered to be the most important topics for 2017:
In 3rd place: Artificial intelligence
Every second respondent (50 percent) considers artificial intelligence to be one of the most influential topics in the digital economy in 2017. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are changing the entire economy and society. News articles are being written by machines, bots are taking over customer service and cars are learning to drive themselves. At the moment, we can only begin to imagine the potential that artificial intelligence will actually have. However, these approaches will already be influencing the economy in 2017.
In 2nd place: Automation
At 55 percent, "automation" received the second most votes. Processes in the advertising industry in particular are increasingly being automated: While programmatic advertising accounted for 32% of the overall market in 2016, this will increase massively in 2017. Automation does not even stop at very complex communication plans. Content is created automatically and even complicated advertising integrations can be handled programmatically. On the basis of increasingly powerful artificial intelligence, the degree of automation is also increasing in customer and user dialog. Chatbots are one example, but overall automation goes far beyond this and will greatly increase interaction and the volume of communication with customers and users.
In 1st place: Personalization and individualization through data analysis
The development that will have the greatest impact on the digital industry in 2017 is the personalization and individualization of goods and services through data analysis. This is the view of 65% of respondents. Until now, the key challenge has been to collect and process data. On this basis, which has made an enormous qualitative leap, the increasing need for personalization and individualization is being taken into account. Be it individualized mass production through Industry 4.0 or programmatic creativity. Developments such as 3D printing are decentralizing production and bringing it home.
