Federal Council adopts Digital Switzerland 2026 strategy
On December 12, 2025, the Federal Council adopted the updated Digital Switzerland Strategy for 2026 and, as usual, identified three priority areas. The focus areas for next year are: digital sovereignty, digital hospitality, and the introduction of e-ID. In doing so, the Federal Council has identified current priorities.

With the annual update, the Federal Council determines two to three current focus topics for the strategy. The Federal Administration focuses its work in the respective year on these priorities and launches specific measures. All measures of the Digital Switzerland Strategy are recorded in a public action plan.
The focus topics for 2026 are:
Digital sovereignty: The federal administration should specifically increase its digital sovereignty and resilience in the event of a crisis in order to remain resilient and capable of acting.
Digital host state: As a digital host state, Switzerland is particularly strengthening International Geneva in the areas of cyber resilience, secure data centers and cloud infrastructure.
Introduction of the E-ID: Residents of Switzerland and Swiss nationals abroad should be able to identify themselves securely on the Internet with the voluntary E-ID.
One important aspect is the exchange between members of the Federal Council and representatives of civil society, business, science, politics and the authorities. The Confederation therefore organizes an advisory board meeting for each focus topic in order to exchange ideas with the relevant representatives. Each advisory board meeting is chaired by a Federal Councillor or the Federal Chancellor. 13 advisory board meetings have taken place since 2021.
