Last week, the TV magazine TR 7 from Jean Frey celebrated its thirtieth birthday. And because SF DRS is 50 years old this year and the fate of a broadcaster and a TV magazine is closely linked anyway, the one was allowed to be a guest of the other celebrant. Studio 1 in Leutschenbach was lovingly decorated with props from former DRS programs such as "Teleboy," "Tell-Star," "Traumpaar" and "Risiko" and featured a three-part review of ten years of Swiss television history. There were some real howlers among them: Do you remember the "Tagesschau" hack from the turbulent eighties, when two hooded men demanded "Freedom and Sunshine for Giorgio Bellini"? And presenter Leon Huber looked even more pissed off than Ronny the poodle in a dispute over dog care rights?
Many scenes were worth seeing because of their age. Peter Schellenberg and Kurt Aeschbacher as very young bastards; not to mention Roger Schawinski at his first casting. He desperately tried to put his hands into non-existent trouser pockets during a posed election moderation. Sandra Studer, host of the evening, also got her comeuppance. In the archive, the producers of the TV spotpourri found some of Studer's very early singing performances.
Further gaffes in Switzerland's own professionally awkward manner (especially when written German was to be spoken) gave the viewers a hell of a time travel in this fast-paced show. And SF DRS would almost have to be elevated to cult status for this.
In addition to a near-live broadcast of Thomas Gottschalk, who wanted to personally convey his birthday greetings peppered with bon mots to TR 7 editor-in-chief René Hildbrand, a production by JWT+H+F also caused a stir. The satirically tinged documentary "TR 7 - We make stars" showed all kinds of weird selection procedures that aspiring TV stars have to go through before they receive the predicate of being fit for the screen - and thus also TR-7 title page dignity.
Jean Frey CEO Filippo Leutenegger, on the other hand, showed greatness. Just a year ago, no one would have bet on ever seeing him on a stage in Leutschenbach again. Instead of small settlements or side blows, his speech included a thank you. In general, to the institution of television, where Leutenegger was able to experience very good times for 21 years. And expressly also to director Peter Schellenberg personally, even though there are said to have been some stormy exchanges between them - there was no resentment, he said.
Food and drink were at their best thanks to Jürg Studer's catering skills, and in view of the huge birthday cake, comedian Mike Müller said that around 12500 calories per person had been calculated. Insulin syringes were then available at the exit.
Last week, the young creative talents of Cannes Open 03 were also selected. At Keystone in Zurich's Binz district, they announced the winners of the competition, which was supported by Keystone, Clear Channel Plakanda and Werbewoche. And these are the rules: A B-12 subject must be created for an arbitrary but real client using an image from Keystone's image database.
Martin Stauch as AD and Armin Arnold as typographic designer were able to prevail against 66 competitors. The first prize is not only a free trip to the advertising festival, but also work. In Cannes, the two up-and-coming talents will be taking
from Lowe Direct took part in the Young Creatives Contest, in which junior teams from all over the world cross creative blades. Lowe Direct consultant Sandra Genge thought about going to the Croisette when the two youngsters won. Whether she was only thinking about her duty of care for her protégées, we'll leave to one side.
During the judging, two clear tendencies could be identified, said jury member and CD Urs Schrepfer from Jung von Matt about the result of the competition. The larger group had looked for a funny picture and built up a good idea from this; a smaller group had first developed the idea and then looked for a suitable visual, which would actually be the correct procedure in practice. By the way, all the submitted works can be admired at www.cannes-open.ch. An exciting, entertaining and therefore also worthwhile surfing tour.

Beat Fritscham Wheel of Fortune. The relic from the show "Risiko" was taken out of the trove, along with other props, for the TR-7 anniversary gala at Leutschenbach. Most of it might be completely unknown to younger viewers, since 30 years of TV history were presented. The youngsters, on the other hand, were awarded prizes at Cannes Open 03 and will therefore be able to demonstrate their creative skills at the advertising festival in June.
