How satisfied are media producers in the workplace?

The Media Forum's industry survey aims to get to the bottom of this and is polling the media production sector on job satisfaction. The initial results indicate a high level of dissatisfaction.

The Medienforum industry survey wants to know exactly how satisfied people are in the media production sector. The survey has been online since last Friday and it is already clear that satisfaction levels are low. Over 40 percent of previous participants would change jobs at the next opportunity, while 8 percent are dissatisfied but still hope for improvement. In contrast, only just over 30 percent have nothing to complain about. These initial results show that media producers fare considerably worse than a recent ETH study on employee satisfaction. According to this study, only 25 percent would change jobs at the next best opportunity. 50 percent of those surveyed by the ETH are satisfied with their working conditions. The Media Forum surveys are also linked to a detailed article and more information on the topic as well as a forum discussion.

Yes to the introduction of personalized TV usage data

At the general meeting of the Electronic Media Interest Group (IGEM), the study was presented that Publisuisse conducted on behalf of IGEM among media agencies, associations, and marketers.

The study conducted by Publisuisse on behalf of IGEM among media agencies, associations and marketers was presented at the general meeting of the electronic media interest group IGEM. The survey shows a clear yes (18 for against 2 against) for the introduction of so-called PIN data, the "personalized usage data" from television research. Of the 30 questionnaires sent out, 21 were answered. The advantages of PIN data that were mentioned most frequently were the tracking of viewer behaviour (e.g. when zapping) with 16 mentions, the optimization of reach and contact classes, the adaptation to international standards, more precise planning and the possibility of own forecasting with 11 mentions each. 4 participants also cited the increase in efficiency as the main advantage that the introduction of PIN data will bring. The most frequently mentioned disadvantages were the additional work involved (19 mentions), the high investment costs and the high forecasting effort (11 mentions each) and the complexity of the subject matter (8 mentions). 10 of the respondents also stated that they needed support when introducing PIN data. When asked about models for personalized television usage data, 14 of the respondents answered that they considered PIN data and pre-aggregated target groups to be useful. Only 5 respondents wanted PIN data. Nine respondents would prefer their own tool as well as an industry tool, while five respondents were in favor of an industry tool alone and five respondents were in favor of their own tool without an industry tool. Marketers were rather cautious when it came to the question of financing. Of the agencies surveyed, 11 stated an amount between CHF 0 and over CHF 50,000. 2 of the respondents do not want to commit themselves, but are prepared to participate. As a time horizon for the introduction, 11 named the booking year 2008, 7 the booking year 2009 and 2 the booking year 2010. 6 agencies named the securing of standardized data as a condition for the introduction. The possible introduction is also dependent on the further course of TV-radio research. According to the Publisuisse presentation, the new RTVA and the RTVO, which is currently being drafted, mean that there are currently uncertainties regarding the future organization of electronic research in Switzerland. These should be clarified before the next steps regarding PIN data are tackled.
