Advertising-financed wikis as a business model?

US entrepreneur John Gotts shelled out 2.86 million dollars for Wiki.com last month. His goal: to open up wikis to advertising financing.

US entrepreneur John Gotts shelled out 2.86 million dollars for Wiki.com last month. His goal: to open up wikis for advertising financing. Wherever there are masses of people, wherever there is cheap production, the economy senses sources of income. Like blogs or social networking sites, advertising-financed wikis are already part of every innovative online business plan in Silicone Valley today. However, the non-profit idea of wikis is not quite so easy to convert into cash. The audience is too unspecific and when advertising is placed, the content has to be checked. But this increases production costs, the skeptics sniff.
Turning away from the open source spiritBut Gotts must have some ideas, otherwise he would probably not be convinced that "no domain is more valuable than Wiki.com", as he says on Nytimes.com. A departure from the open source spirit of the wiki model is necessary because Gotts' business model works by operating free sub-wikis, such as Soccer.wiki.com. Their owners decide who contributes to their sites. These sub-domains, according to Gott's plan, are served with industry-specific advertising or e-commerce.
Not everyone is convinced yet: For PBwiki co-founder Ramit Sethi, it is still too early to say which model will bring the wiki money. "Nobody has really found a business model for wikis yet," he told the New York Times.

Pfizer must correct "clarification" prospectus

Following its defeat in the Federal Supreme Court, the pharmaceutical company Pfizer must send 930,000 Swiss women a correction of previously provided information on the treatment of migraines. The cost of the correction campaign is in the millions.

Following its defeat in the Federal Supreme Court, the pharmaceutical company Pfizer must send 930,000 Swiss women a correction of previously provided information on the treatment of migraine.
The reason: the information about migraine was linked to promotional intentions and the recipients were misled by the incomplete information. At the end of 2004, a personally addressed guide with a self-test was sent out, which contained a reference to a migraine remedy that was superior to other remedies. The relatively significant risks of side effects were concealed.

The Federal Supreme Court rejected Pfizer's appeal to the administrative court and followed the argument that the attitudes of the patients addressed could well be influenced by this. According to a report in the SonntagsZeitung, the correction will cost Pfizer over one million francs.

She is also actively involved behind the scenes of the music channel: as production manager of various in-house productions and as head of the chart editorial team. Bachmann's success is no coincidence: the black music specialist has been involved in the scene for around ten years and has attracted attention as editor-in-chief of the urban lifestyle magazine Word, as an artist mentor and as a CNN presenter at the Montreux Jazz Festival. As 3+ states in the corresponding media release, she is the perfect addition to the jury trio - which was previously exclusively male and the average age is now under 50 thanks to Jubaira.

The German pay-TV channel Premiere has launched an online video library. At Vod.premiere.de, users can download a selection of movies from twelve genres. There is still speculation about the best business model for expanding the service.

The German pay-TV channel Premiere has set up an online video library. A selection of films from twelve genres can be downloaded at Vod.premiere.de. The offer, which already includes 600 films, is still in the test phase. The program is to be expanded in the coming weeks.
The direction this expansion will take is currently the subject of speculation. For example, films from the channel's program offering could also be sold via an online video library after they have been broadcast. The marketing of in-house productions is also conceivable. The secondary exploitation of football matches is also conceivable - as a download after the game.

Swiss Adex: Stagnation in Google advertising

When it comes to Google advertising, there’s largely a summer lull: In August, the cost per click was only slightly lower than in the previous month, and the number of ad placements booked remained virtually unchanged.

When it comes to Google advertising, the summer break is largely over: in August, a click cost an average of CHF 1.56, only slightly less than in the previous month (CHF 1.57), and with just under 30 advertising spaces booked per search query, the booking volume has only increased very slightly. This is shown by the August values of the Swiss Adex from Angelink yourposition.
One industry, however, is stirring: insurance companies. While they still occupied around 15 advertising spaces per search query in July, this figure rose to almost 20 AdWords in August - fall is approaching.
While insurance companies are currently still paying modest prices by their standards (an average of CHF 1.67 per click), the click price in another sector is skyrocketing.
amount. IT service providers once again outbid each other and paid CHF 4.63 per click in August. In March 2006, when the Swiss Adex was surveyed for the first time, this figure was one franc lower per click.
The monthly Swiss Adex published by Angelink yourposition measures how search engine marketing with Google AdWords is developing in Switzerland. All prices are based on the click prices that Google offers potential advertising customers online.

Consolidated income amounted to CHF 151.0 million (2005: CHF 157.5 million / 2004: CHF 126.0 million). The profit for the semester amounted to CHF 18.2 million (2005: CHF 32.2 million / 2004: CHF 13.1 million). A direct comparison with the previous year is only possible to a limited extent, as the program of events does not include the same exhibitions every year. Furthermore, the SDA news agency reports that the event program in the second half of the year is generally significantly weaker than in the first half.

Participation in Expomobila AG MCH Swiss Exhibition (Holding) Ltd. and Expomobilia AG, based in Effretikon, have agreed that Swiss Exhibition will acquire a 40 percent stake in the stand construction company as of January 1, 2007.
