Google: High profits despite the crisis
Despite the economic crisis, Google has once again posted a surprisingly high profit. The surplus climbed by 19 percent to just under 1.5 billion dollars in the second quarter.
After the first decline in turnover in the company's history, the Internet company Google is on a slight upward trend again. The company increased its turnover from April to June by 3 percent to 5.52 billion dollars compared to the same quarter last year. Profits even rose by 19 percent to 1.48 billion dollars, as Google announced on Thursday (local time) according to SDA. Analysts were nevertheless disappointed. The share price fell by more than three percent in after-hours trading.
Google earns most of its money from advertising. The company dominates the search engine market. Google will constantly improve its search engine, said CEO Eric Schmidt during a conference call. "Users are asking more and more complex questions, and they are now angry if they don't find what they are looking for."
Rival Microsoft recently launched its new search engine Bing. In return, Google announced its own operating system for computers last week. Google's goal is "for people to spend more and more time on the Internet", said Schmidt - and not be able to avoid the advertising there.
