Thousands of complaints to the federal government about unsolicited advertising calls
The revised Unfair Competition Act (UCA) has been in force since April 1, 2012. Among other things, the revision has restricted telemarketing. Since then, companies have been acting unfairly if they call people who expressly do not wish to receive calls for advertising purposes with an asterisk entry in the telephone directory.
By the end of April 2014, SECO had received 12,314 complaints about violations of the revised UCA, SECO spokeswoman Marie Avet confirmed to Blick on Wednesday. Around two-thirds of the complaints concerned unsolicited advertising calls.
Of the 62 court cases, about half are still pending. According to the law, the federal government can only sue if certain conditions are met - especially if several people are affected.
SECO has also issued warnings to a total of 121 companies. According to Avet, they were made aware of the violation of the law in writing. About half of these companies have changed the criticized business behavior, it said. (SDA)
