That's what the Tamedia communiqué says. But no one in the industry believes that "Zimmi," who played a key role in shaping the SonntagsZeitung, "invented" Facts, and launched TV 3 and Winner.ch, is leaving voluntarily. Rather, it is rumored that he aspired to succeed Michel M. Favre as CEO, but was rebuffed by the Board of Directors.
Zimmermann is not upset by the rumors, but remains silent about a possible disagreement with the Board of Directors, preferring to emphasize that he has already experienced much of the excitement of helping to shape a major company: Over the past ten years, he has been quite successful in the areas of print, TV, and the Internet, and has often been able to represent the company to the outside world. That's why he, who has already worked for Jean Frey, Ringier and Curti Medien, is ready for something new at the age of 50. "As a manager, I was controlled by others; with the planned independence, I want to regain more control over my time budget," he says. (mk)
