This man has a nose for big appearances: Who else manages to be quoted 22 times in the media without delivering a truly spectacular story? An erotic advertisement, threatened measures against snooping snoopers and a failed project were enough to earn Bumann a place in the tabloids. "It's great to be quoted so often
becomes. In the end, I was able to find an unconventional way of
Saas-Fee in this way," says Bumann.
However, his media presence not only helped Saas-Fee, but also himself. He was even mentioned in a newspaper a year and a half ago as a possible successor to Lucerne's almost legendary transport director Kurt H. Illi. "I didn't hear anything about that," says Bumann modestly. However, the job would have appealed to him. After six years as transport director, Bumann decided last year: "I need a new challenge." Finding a job was not too difficult for the ambitious HSG graduate. "I was a finalist for several jobs."
He was accepted by SBB. "Because it appeals to me to work in such a large company and because I believe that a lot can be achieved here." He explains that he has plenty of ideas. However, he doesn't want to reveal what they are, let alone what he intends to change. "I want to get to grips with the job and talk to my new colleagues before I take a position on this," he says diplomatically.
After all, everything is new to him: the business, the employees, the location, the budget: instead of being the Director of Tourism in Saas-Fee, he now works as Head of Marketing Communications for the SBB Passenger Division, instead of 18 employees he has 20, instead of living in Saas-Fee he now lives near Bern, instead of a budget of CHF 3 million he has a budget of CHF 20 million: "You can do a lot with that," he says, smiling mischievously.
As with Saas-Fee, he is likely to resort to unconventional tactics. In contrast to the competition, he relied on a foreign agency: that of Professor Kleiber-Wurm in Munich. "This allowed us to stand out from the competition and be unconventional."
However, Bumann's hobbies are unexpectedly conventional: he likes hiking, skiing, cross-country skiing, collecting mushrooms and "enjoys spending time" with his partner and friends. "It's the best way for me to relax," he says. Annelies Friedli
