Microsoft Switzerland shows how AI moves people with lerneKI.ch

Three apprentices from Lucerne won the lerneKI.ch challenge with their AI app «Civa»—and reduced household food waste by 45 percent during the testing phase. This is an example of how Microsoft Switzerland not only explains artificial intelligence but also brings it to life.

Instead of high-tech jargon, the Challenge focuses on authenticity: a carpenter who uses AI to plan interior design projects; a 13-year-old who composes songs; a mushroom farmer who optimizes yields. Real-life stories that make AI tangible and break down prejudices.

«The ability to understand and make effective use of artificial intelligence will become a core competency of the future,» says Primo Amrein, AI Skills Director Switzerland. «With lerneKI.ch »We bring this knowledge directly to the people."

LerneKI.ch is part of Microsoft Philanthropies' AI training initiative and is supported by Leiseder Responsible for Communication & Marketing.

The Mechanics: A Challenge Instead of a Campaign. Jury member Sepp Arnold («Farmer Wants a Wife…») brings popularity; an AI training session at the Innovation Hub Zurich is a special highlight; and user-generated content drives community engagement. Result: Widespread coverage in mainstream media.

By 2027, Microsoft aims to train one million people in Switzerland in the use of AI and digital tools. The target groups include employees, teachers, students, associations, and nonprofits. Platforms such as AI-Fitness.ch and LerneKI.ch make it easier to get started, with support from universities of applied sciences, associations, and other organizations. According to a Microsoft report, 80 percent of Swiss executives view 2025 as a turning point for AI adoption.
