Digitalswitzerland: Switzerland is positioning itself for the digital future
At the Digitalswitzerland Forum 2025, the AI Action Plan was launched as the next step toward a digitally sovereign Switzerland. Federal Councilor Albert Rösti emphasized the opportunities AI offers for innovation and independence. The event also marked the kickoff for the Global AI Summit 2027.
In the foreground: Integration of the e-Id
The e-ID must prove to be a real added value in the eyes of users and the Swiss population. Companies such as Swiss Post and Twint announced at the Digitalswitzerland Forum 2025 that they will integrate the e-ID into their digital offerings in future in order to provide their customers with simple and secure access to digital services. digitalswitzerland will continue to closely monitor and support the implementation of the e-ID.
AI policy with clear goals
In his speech, Federal Councillor Albert Rösti formulated three central goals of Swiss AI policy: Switzerland should remain a strong location for innovation, the protection of fundamental rights must also be guaranteed in the digital age, and the population and companies must be able to trust AI. "If we use AI wisely, it can make our country stronger, more innovative and more independent," emphasized Rösti.
AI Action Plan as a guide
The AI Action Plan coordinated by digitalswitzerland combines the strengths of the federal government, business and science in five fields of action. It promotes digital skills, strengthens research and innovation, creates sovereign data and cloud infrastructures, improves the quality and interoperability of data and defines principles for trustworthy AI governance.
"The AI Action Plan stands for Switzerland's strengths: openness, cooperation and trust," said Franziska Barmettler, CEO of Digitalswitzerland. Andreas Meyer, President of dDigitalswitzerland, added: "We very much welcome the fact that the Federal Council is addressing Switzerland's role in the global AI market. Switzerland needs bold investments from the federal government and the private sector in digital infrastructures, research and education."
Outlook for Global AI Summit
With a view to the planned Global AI Summit Geneva 2027, Switzerland is positioning itself as a shaper of international AI governance. "We are focusing on smart, agile rules instead of bans," said Federal Councillor Rösti. The AI Action Plan is to be fleshed out further by the WEF 2026 in Davos.
