Seed: Renewable gases for a climate-neutral Switzerland

Seed is producing a series of films on biogas production for the Swiss Gas Industry Association.

In Switzerland today, only around a tenth of suitable organic waste is fermented into biogas. In order to promote utilization, the Swiss gas industry supports the feed-in of renewable gases and the construction of new plants via the biogas fund. The industry wants to make the local gas supply completely climate-neutral by 2050. Renewable gases such as synthetic biomethane, green hydrogen and biogas will play an important role.

They will replace natural gas, particularly in industry and the heating sector, and offer new application possibilities in heavy goods transportation. Technologies for efficiently integrating renewable gases into the energy system are already available. Electricity from renewable sources can also be stored in the gas network. Energy generated in summer can thus be used in winter, contributing to a secure energy supply.

Series of project films

The Swiss Gas Industry Association is showing how renewable gases are produced in a series of project films. The first two films focus on biogas production in agricultural plants near Burgdorf and Delémont. Instead of spreading liquid manure and dung directly on the fields, they are collected and used in special plants to produce domestic biogas.

Seed researched, developed and produced the films in close collaboration with the Swiss Gas Industry Association. The films were directed by Philipp Böhlen. The films are shown on a specially developed Landing page shown. Short versions are used in social media. The films are also used as part of events, lectures and presentations.
