The five biggest Facebook advertising mistakes

Advertising on Facebook is now an integral part of marketing for many companies. The largest social network has 30 million users in Germany alone. Enough reach to enable small and medium-sized companies in particular to precisely address their respective target groups. The tools that Facebook offers for planning campaigns are very easy to use. Nevertheless, there are a few pitfalls that can sabotage the success of campaigns.
The five biggest mistakes you can make with advertising on Facebook, according to MSO Digital:
1. you have chosen the wrong campaign target.
What do you want to achieve with your campaign? The correctly chosen goal is the basis for the delivery of your campaign and sets the path for the advertising algorithm. For example, it makes a big difference whether you optimize for clicks or conversions.
2. you do not know your target group.
Use Audience Insights to learn more about your target audience. The more you think about your audience, the better you can tailor your ads and get better results. You can find Audience Insights (audience statistics) in your Ads Manager.
3. you set only one ad in your ad sets.
In any case, test several ads against each other. Often, the best ad will be one you wouldn't have expected. Even with a small budget, A/B testing is a must for the success of your Facebook campaign. Test out different components: different texts with the same image or the same images with different texts or call-to-actions. It's a good idea to test over and over again at regular intervals to see what your target audience is most likely to respond to.
You select "Automatic alignment".
Facebook is constantly rolling out new placements, most recently the Messenger Home Ads. Nevertheless, analyze exactly which placements perform well and actively control them instead of letting Facebook take this decision for you. Placement in particular often offers great potential for optimization!
5. you do not use the Facebook pixel.
Pixel activities are crucial for optimizing your campaigns to a specific target. The algorithm registers the actions on the website and uses them to always target the most relevant users. Not using Facebook Pixel is a real no-go!
Shahab Hosseiny, CEO at MSO Digital: "Social media offers advertisers enormous potential to optimally reach their own target group. Even more fans, reach and sales can be generated if the rules of the game are mastered. Facebook's tools are already very practical and make it possible to create advertising materials quickly. However, you shouldn't rush things here either, but proceed strategically. A good plan, consistent implementation and continuous monitoring and adjustment of the campaign are extremely important."
