Pro Infirmis talks about fear

CAMPAIGN With its new campaign, Pro Infirmis is raising awareness of anxiety disorders among the Swiss population and encouraging people to speak out. They can affect anyone, anywhere and at any time: Anxiety disorders - panic attacks. In Switzerland, 800,000 people suffer from this form of mental impairment. It is often so severe that it completely excludes those affected from social life, disabling them in a real sense.Anxiety disorders are the second most common mental impairment in Switzerland after depression. Women are affected around two and a half times more frequently than men. One of the most serious forms of anxiety disorders, agoraphobia, usually begins in the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Those affected are unable to spend time in public spaces, on public transport or in large crowds. They suffer from symptoms such as a racing or stabbing heart, trembling, dizziness, sweating or fear of suffocation, and avoid public places and withdraw into themselves out of fear of these symptoms. As a result, they often lose their job and their connection to social life. Pro Infirmis supports these people with advice, guidance and support. With the "Angst lähmt" campaign, we want to raise public awareness of anxiety disorders and reduce the stigmatization of mental disabilities," explains Mark Zumbühl, member of the Pro Infirmis Executive Board. The campaign film, which is being distributed via social media from today, was made with the well-known and award-winning Danish director Martin Werner and takes the campaign claim "Fear paralyzes" in a playful and serious way.
