Using customer perceptions in product development

BOOK TIP In the book "Perceived Quality", author Robert Schmitt explains how the subjective perception of a product can influence its success and how the perceived quality of products can be optimized. It is not the objectively measurable quality of a product that determines whether a customer buys it, but the subjectively perceived quality - this is the core message of this book. This would actually be a classic marketing topic. So it is all the more pleasing that engineers and product developers are addressing it here. The downside: unfortunately, the often technical and abstract language detracts a little from the enjoyment of reading, at least for non-engineers. In the individual articles, the authors talk about their day-to-day work and throw around technical measurement procedures, research methods and study designs. It would also have been useful if these reports had been better coordinated. The many examples are interesting; it's just a shame that most of them come from the automotive industry - the few examples from aircraft and toolmaking hardly offer any variety. A book with advantages and disadvantages; but as the topic is not only exciting but also highly topical, getAbstract can recommend it to all product developers, engineers and quality managers.getAbstract rating: 6Implementability: 6Innovation level: 8Style: 4
