Cinema advertising experiences a strong 2015
CINEMAKING Cinema is experiencing a strong 2015 - not only in terms of visitor numbers, but also as an advertising medium, according to an interim assessment by Werbe Weischer.More and more advertising clients are becoming enthusiastic about the medium of cinema, including new customers as well as companies that are rediscovering screen advertising for the presentation of their brands. This trend is impressively reflected in advertising investments, which are significantly higher for cinema this year than in the previous year: In the first half of 2015, advertisers invested over CHF 16.9 million in cinema advertising (gross; source: 2015 Media Focus). That is an increase of 15.7 percent. At over CHF 9.7 million, WerbeWeischer Switzerland was responsible for 58% of the budgets invested by advertising clients in cinemas in the first six months of this year. "We recorded growth of over 38% in our clients' gross advertising investments, which puts us well above the industry average," says a delighted Nils Schilling, Managing Director WerbeWeischer Schweiz GmbH. 2015 saw brands such as Manor (presence in the supporting program of the blockbuster "Fifty Shades of Grey"), Freixenet, Peugeot/Citroën, Sunrise, Emirates, Hoststar, Helvetia Versicherungen, Nintendo and Panasonic/Technics either enter the cinema advertising market for the first time or rediscover the medium for themselves. "This pleasing development is a clear confirmation of our strategy of strengthening cinema as an advertising medium in the digital moving image mix, for example with our pioneering cinema advertising model Cinema.Reloaded©," says Nils Schilling. "Many customers are enthusiastic about the many opportunities offered by cinema to present brands to specific target groups with long formats, great images and breathtaking sound. "The visitor figures reported for cinema this year should also have a convincing effect on advertising clients. The experience medium is experiencing strong growth in visitor numbers worldwide and even more film fans are opting to go to the movies in 2015 in Switzerland, which is already a cinema-friendly country: according to ProCinema, more than 10% more visitors had bought a cinema ticket by the middle of the year, with the increase in German-speaking Switzerland even reaching over 13.3%. The unusually high number of blockbuster films this year is likely to be a key reason for the increased enthusiasm for the cinema. The top films in the first half of the year were "Fast & Furious 7" (491,266 admissions according to ProCinema), "Fifty Shades of Grey" (398,140), "Honig im Kopf" (378,589), "Jurassic World" (263,334) and "Avengers Age of Ultron" (225,472).
