Simon Bärtschi will become the new Head of Journalism at Tamedia on May 1, 2024 and will also join the company's Executive Board in this role. The 54-year-old former Editor-in-Chief of the Berner Zeitung and BZ/Bund will take over from Mathias Müller von Blumencron, who is handing over the reins as planned on April 30, 2024. Simon Bärtschi has clearly positioned the Berner Marken journalistically, switched to mobile first and established new digital formats. As Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Manager, he has managed the editorial teams of BZ, Der Bund, Thuner Tagblatt and Bernese Oberland into one editorial team and reorganized both brands and teams.

For the man from Bern, the new job is a return to his old place of work. Bärtschi had previously worked at Zurich's Werdstrasse for 15 years. He was deputy editor-in-chief of the SonntagsZeitung and member of the editorial board of Tages-Anzeiger and SonntagsZeitung.

Major castling in Bern

Mathias Müller von Blumencron is a member of Tamedia's Board of Directors and one of the most experienced journalistic minds for digital change. The 63-year-old was appointed by the Board of Directors to the Management Board as Head of Journalism ad interim for one and a half years. In his role, Müller von Blumencron has initiated significant structural changes, driven forward the digitalization of Tamedia's editorial offices and ensured that the Tages-Anzeiger expands its position as a leading medium.

As a result of this change, there will be a major shake-up in Bern: Wolf Röcken, previously a member of the editorial team in Bern and responsible for daily management and news management, will become the new editor-in-chief. The 48-year-old has held various positions at the BZ for more than 20 years. He was head of the Bern city team and the national coat as well as head of news and made a significant contribution to the success of the mergers to form the Bern editorial team. Röcken will take up his new post on May 1.

Marcello Odermatt, 48, is the new member of the Bern editorial team and editor-in-chief of the Bund and co-head of the Bern section. Odermatt has been a member of the Bund editorial team for over 16 years. From 2006 to 2012, he worked as editor of the Federal Parliament. As a member of numerous working groups in the merged editorial team of the Bund and Berner Zeitung, he played a key role in shaping and developing the editorial team. Odermatt will take over from Isabelle Jacobi, who is leaving Tamedia, on April 1.
