NZZ Federal Parliament Bureau: Nuspliger Takes Over as Editor-in-Chief
The NZZ is strengthening its coverage from Federal Bern: Effective October 1, Niklaus Nuspliger will take over as head of the Federal Parliament newsroom. At the same time, the team is expanding its ranks with two new journalists.

NZZ Federal Parliament Editorial Office with New Leadership and an Expanded Team
The NZZ is restructuring its Federal Parliament editorial team, thereby strengthening its political coverage from Bern. Effective October 1, 2026, Niklaus Nuspliger will take over as head of the NZZ’s Federal Parliament editorial team. He has been with the NZZ since 2007 and previously served as a Federal Parliament correspondent in Bern from 2008 to 2011. He subsequently served as a foreign correspondent in New York, Brussels, and most recently London. Drawing on his many years of experience in Swiss and international political reporting, he will now assume the role of department head.
At the same time, the deputy leadership of the Domestic Affairs Division will be expanded: In addition to Andri Rostetter, Nuspliger will also assume this role in the future.
Two new faces are joining the team
Effective September 1, two more journalists will be joining the editorial team. Adrien Woeffray is moving from the *Freiburger Nachrichten* to the NZZ; previously, he served as politics editor at the *Walliser Bote*, among other roles. Beatrice Bösiger will take on the role of economic correspondent at the Federal Parliament. The former NZZ business editor and banking specialist will now report from Bern on economic and financial policy. Organizationally, she will remain part of the economics department and will work closely with the Federal Parliament editorial team on content—a model that deliberately promotes the integration of political and economic reporting.
The newly formed NZZ Federal Parliament editorial team also includes Katharina Fontana, Selina Berner, Matthias Venetz, and Renato Schatz, who joined in May 2026. Schatz gained his first experience in political reporting at the «St. Galler Tagblatt» and subsequently worked in the NZZ’s newsroom before transferring from the NZZ headquarters in Zurich to Bern on May 1.
Experience and Networking as the Foundation
NZZ Editor-in-Chief Eric Gujer summarizes the approach: «Good political journalism thrives on experience, proximity, strong networks, and in-depth knowledge of the issues. That’s what we’re focusing on with our new structure.»
