Lena Berger and the «Luzerner Zeitung»: A comeback with a leadership mission
The Board of Directors of CH Media has appointed Lena Berger as the new Editor-in-Chief of the «Luzerner Zeitung» and its regional editions. The experienced journalist will take up her new role on October 1, 2026, succeeding Christian Peter Meier, who is retiring at the end of June. Lena Berger currently works for the «Beobachter» as an online journalist and deputy editor-in-chief.
Experienced journalist with strong regional roots
Lena Berger has been working as a journalist since 2007 and specializes in justice issues, among other things. She started out as a regional journalist in Lucerne - including at the «Luzerner Zeitung» itself, where she worked as an editor and was later responsible for the regional section of the Sunday edition. In 2019, she moved to the online magazine Zentralplus as editor-in-chief. She was awarded the title of «Central Switzerland Journalist of the Year 2019» for this work.
Berger lives in Lucerne and says she has a large network in the region. She studied psychology, criminal law and criminology at the University of Bern. In addition to her work as a journalist, she is a member of the Swiss Press Council and trains media professionals as a lecturer at the MAZ in Lucerne.
«The best thing about regional journalism is being close to the people,» says Lena Berger about her new role. «The ‚Luzerner Zeitung‘ opens a window into a different reality of life on every page; from the tradeswoman to the mountain farmer to the city politician. Especially in these times of social media algorithms, I want to work with the editorial team to create a newspaper in which readers get to know views that surprise them - and not just confirm what they already think.»
CH Media relies on digital know-how and regional expertise
Anna Wanner, Chairwoman of the Journalism Committee of the Board of Directors of CH Media, explains the choice as follows: «Lena Berger is convincing both as a journalist and as a leader. With her strong regional roots and her digital knowledge, she is ideally placed to provide important impetus as Editor-in-Chief of the ‚Luzerner Zeitung‘.»
Patrik Müller, Editor-in-Chief of CH Media's newspapers and associated online portals, adds: «The team has fond memories of Lena Berger from her time at the ‚Luzerner Zeitung‘. We are delighted to have her as Editor-in-Chief and to be able to count on her experience in digital transformation and her journalistic expertise.»
As Editor-in-Chief of the «Luzerner Zeitung», Lena Berger will be directly responsible for the editorial team from October 2026 and will also manage the editorial teams of the «Zuger Zeitung», «Nidwaldner Zeitung», «Obwaldner Zeitung» and «Urner Zeitung».
