Dr. Muriel Willi Appointed Editor-in-Chief of *BauernZeitung* for Central Switzerland
The BauernZeitung has appointed a new editor-in-chief for Central Switzerland: Effective July 1, 2026, Dr. Muriel Willi will take over responsibility for regional coverage. She succeeds Josef Scherer, who is retiring at the end of the year after more than three decades of service to the agricultural sector.
Josef Scherer leaves behind a strong foundation
Josef Scherer played a pivotal role in shaping the *BauernZeitung* for more than 30 years. Before joining the publication in 1994, he worked for the Lucerne Farmers’ Association. With his expertise, extensive network, and deep connection to agriculture, he left a lasting impression on readers, the industry, and the company. To ensure a seamless transition, Dr. Muriel Willi will be working closely with her predecessor through the end of the year to familiarize herself with the role.
Muriel Willi Returns to the Company
With Dr. Muriel Willi, the BauernZeitung is gaining a journalist with an extensive network in the agricultural sector. A native of Lucerne, she previously worked as an editor for TierWelt at Schweizer Agrarmedien before joining Agroscope’s communications department. Most recently, she worked as a freelance journalist for various media outlets covering agriculture and equestrian sports. She is now returning to the company in a new role.
Peter Neumann, CEO of Schweizer Agrarmedien, commented on the change: «With Muriel Willi, we’ve been able to bring on board an experienced journalist for this important role. Thanks to her previous work at TierWelt, she is already very familiar with our company and our readership. At the same time, we would like to thank Josef Scherer for his extraordinary dedication and his valuable contributions over many years to Schweizer Agrarmedien and the agricultural sector.»
The new editor-in-chief speaks enthusiastically about her new role: «I’m looking forward to reporting on the diverse agricultural activities in my home region, and I’m excited to be able to contribute to the further development of the BauernZeitung.»
For more than 30 years, the BauernZeitung has been reporting on Swiss agriculture and providing weekly updates on current developments, political decisions, markets, and practical topics relevant to the industry.
