Noah Baumbach has been one of the most distinctive voices in American auteur cinema for decades. With films such as THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, FRANCES HA and MARRIAGE STORY, he wrote film history and became synonymous with sensitive yet humorous relationship dramas. Baumbach's MARRIAGE STORY received six Academy Award nominations and Laura Dern won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2020.

Time and again, Baumbach succeeds in interweaving intimate everyday stories with existential questions - embodied by outstanding actors and actresses such as Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Nicole Kidman, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Dustin Hoffman and Greta Gerwig.

His new film remains true to the "comédie humaine": JAY KELLY is a captivating satire on the Hollywood star circus. George Clooney plays the famous actor Jay Kelly, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and confronts his past and present, accompanied by his loyal manager Ron (Adam Sandler).

This biting comedy is considered one of the big Oscar contenders of the season. Moving and full of humor, epic and intimate, Jay Kelly navigates the tension between life's regrets and its brilliant climaxes.

"With Noah Baumbach, we are honoring an auteur who has shaped US cinema for decades with his keen sense of human relationships and his precise powers of observation," says Christian Jungen, Festival Director of the ZFF. "In my opinion, Jay Kelly is one of the outstanding films of the year and one of those works that in retrospect will be regarded as a masterpiece within his oeuvre."
