Swiss Life Brannhof: Pioneering spirit on Bahnhofstrasse

For more than three years, the historic building on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse remained hidden behind construction barriers. Starting this fall, it will be revealed in all its new splendor—and with a new name.

The magnificent building from the first years of the 20th century opens its doors under the new name Swiss Life Brannhof. The façade was completely revitalized, taking into account historical models and contemporary requirements.

The name is also based on the historical model. Swiss Life Brannhof stands for the pioneering spirit of its builder, Julius Brann, and at the same time builds a bridge to the structural change. Thus, the original Brann department store (1912 to 1938) at Bahnhofstrasse 75 has been combined with the Bahnhofstrasse 79 property to create a complex that opens up new perspectives for its use: A balanced mix of gastronomy, shopping facilities and workplaces makes the Swiss Life Brannhof a versatile, lively meeting center in the Swiss business metropolis.

The communications and branding agency Halder Record developed the corresponding name and design proposals for this project. In close cooperation with Swiss Life and the architect Hans Peter Häberli of SPPA Architekten, various implementations for signage, building barriers and marketing documents were created around the new name. The phonetic proximity to the word "station" may sound like a coincidence, but it fits: Swiss Life Brannhof is located just a few minutes' walk from the main railroad station.
