Morocco has been hosting the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) since December 21, 2025. The Moroccan national team kicked off its campaign with a 2:0 victory over Comoros. The AFCON 2025 is part of the preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

These major sporting events mark a historic moment for the country and mark the start of a new international image campaign: "Morocco - Kingdom of Football". This campaign underlines Morocco's growing role on the global football and tourism map. The latest sporting successes confirm this momentum: in October, Morocco won the U20 World Cup in Chile - impressive proof of the talent and dynamism of the young generation.

Africa Cup 2025 and World Cup 2030

From December 21 to January 18, 24 countries will compete for the continental title at the Africa Cup 2025 in Morocco. The country last hosted the Africa Cup in 1988 and is now not only the host, but also one of the top favorites. Led by Achraf Hakimi (PSG), the team wants to make the most of the home advantage. Côte d'Ivoire go into the tournament as defending champions and will play Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique in Group F.

Four years later, the world will be dominated by the World Cup: the Fifa World Cup 2030 will be held on three continents for the first time, with Morocco, Spain and Portugal as the main hosts. With the official confirmation of the venues on December 11, 2024, Morocco finally became the focus of the football world - a historic moment for the country and African football.

Tourism campaign starts in 2026

The new international tourism campaign "Morocco: Kingdom of Football" will be launched at the beginning of 2026. This builds on the strong connection between sport, national identity and international image and shows Morocco as a country where football is much more than a game - a cultural link, an expression of community and a driver of visions for the future.

As a first step in the new campaign, an accompanying campaign film was presented on November 18 in Rabat by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (MNTO) together with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The film focuses on the country's extraordinary passion - football, which revitalizes medinas, connects beaches, brings families together and makes entire cities vibrate.

The film shows a modern, cosmopolitan Morocco - driven by talent, community and the energy of a young generation that is lifting national football onto the international stage. With the campaign, the upcoming Africa Cup and the joint hosting of the 2030 World Cup, Morocco is presenting itself as one of the most important football locations of the future. The sport not only strengthens the country's international visibility, but also opens up new prospects for tourism and Morocco's cultural positioning.
