Basel wins congress ambassadors for international networking
Basel Tourism's Convention Bureau is expanding its ambassador program with three new experts

Basel Tourism has recorded significant success in attracting international congresses. The Convention Bureau's Ambassadors program established in summer 2024 is having a measurable impact: 30 new congress applications have been initiated in the past twelve months, with seven international congresses until 2030 and five national conferences won for Basel.
The most significant successes include the ECIO 2026 in the field of oncology as well as the EuroCTO 2026 and the ESC Digital & AI Summit 2026 in the field of cardiology. Particularly noteworthy is the acceptance of the bid for the Congress of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) 2027, which will bring around 2,000 participants to Basel. This success was made possible by the close collaboration with the Cardiology Department of the University Hospital Basel and the Swiss Society of Hypertension.
To further promote this positive development, three new experts were appointed to the circle of official congress ambassadors on August 20: Prof. Dr. Felix Mahfoud, Prof. Dr. Marios Psychogios and Prof. Dr. Florian M. Thieringer, all from the University Hospital Basel. They join the existing panel of thirteen renowned scientists from various institutions such as the University Hospital Basel, the FHNW and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
Every year, Basel Tourism's Convention Bureau organizes an average of 15 international congresses that bring around 15,000 participants to the city. This not only strengthens the local economy, but also promotes the transfer of knowledge and the image of the city of Basel as an important congress and science destination.
