Business newspaper L'Agefi in trouble

The French-Swiss business newspaper L'Agefi continues to struggle with financial difficulties and is moving from Lausanne to the suburb of Echandens. The paper has been in the red since 2003.

The situation is critical, but L'Agefi will still be around for the next few years, said Editor-in-Chief François Schaller in an interview with the newspapers Le Courrier and La Liberté on Monday. He wants to counter the difficulties with a digital upheaval. In the future, the newspaper will share offices with Aevis Holding, which owns private hospitals Genolier, among others. The group is also a 49 percent shareholder in the newspaper. The move will not affect journalistic independence, Schaller emphasized in an interview. The newspaper's main shareholder is French businessman Alain Duménil, who has been the subject of tax proceedings in Switzerland since 2014. Because of these proceedings, L'Agefi is no longer among the main shareholder's priorities, Schaller held. The newspaper announced a capital increase in November, which has not been substantiated since then. The project is still underway, according to the editor-in-chief. (SDA)
