Weltwoche editor sentenced to fine in Aargau

An editor at *Die Weltwoche* has been convicted of repeatedly publishing confidential official negotiations. The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor imposed a fine of 400 francs on the editor via a summary judgment.

The penalty order is not yet final. The convicted person filed an appeal against it. The Aargau public prosecutor's office confirmed a corresponding report in the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper. The background to the penalty order are two articles that appeared in Weltwoche last September. The reports quoted statements made by the Green government councilor Susanne Hochuli in a parliamentary commission.

Hochuli's department then filed a criminal complaint with the Office of the Attorney General against unknown persons. The contents and minutes of parliamentary committee meetings are subject to official secrecy in Aargau. The reports concerned the fact that the Department of Health and Social Affairs had spent several 100,000 francs on guarding asylum shelters around five years ago without having obtained corresponding offers beforehand.
