The economic situation of the media has deteriorated in recent years, mainly due to the decline in advertising revenue, the loss of subscription revenue, the digitization of information and the population's changing habits in terms of access to information. These economic difficulties affect both the media themselves and the institutions that provide them with services, such as Keystone-SDA.

In order to guarantee media coverage, the State of Valais and Keystone-SDA have signed a performance mandate for the period 2025-2028. According to this mandate, the news agency will receive CHF 70,000 per year to strengthen the production of regional news from and for the canton of Valais on topics of political, economic and social importance and to increase the attractiveness of regional feeds for the media. This reporting will take place within the framework of the agency's usual editorial principles.

The reports published by the news agencies to cover current events form a solid and reliable basis for the work of the media. By signing this performance mandate, the State of Valais wishes to support the diversity and independence of the media, which are essential for a functioning democracy and act as a counterweight to disinformation.
