Association of Swiss Free Newspapers: New president of the regional free newspapers
At this year's general meeting, held at Ringier Print in Adligenswil at the end of March, the members elected Dani Sigel as their new president. He succeeds Thomas Akermann.
Ackermann has headed the association of weekly free newspapers for five years. During this time, the number of members has increased significantly, with the result that the almost 20 titles in German- and French-speaking Switzerland are now distributed to over 1.6 million households. The association offers a combined package for which a discount of 25 percent is granted for 5 or more titles, the association said in a press release. Last year, the VSGZ celebrated its 20th anniversary, and this year it will present itself to the public with an advertising campaign. For the new president, who is managing director of the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt and publishing director of the Rheinzeitung, the focus will be on expanding online activities in addition to the Kombi, the press release continues. As a pioneer in web TV, he can point to a successful multimedia offering in his own publishing house.
