UPC Cablecom has not violated the Price Disclosure Ordinance

The cable network operator and telecoms provider has been proved right on the question of whether UPC Cablecom is displaying prices correctly in its advertising. The Bülach district administration office dismissed a complaint about a breach of the Price Disclosure Ordinance.

Company spokesman Bernard Strapp confirmed a corresponding report by Sonntagblick. The complaint was filed by competitor Sunrise in the summer. It was of the opinion that UPC Cablecom made too little reference in its price information to the fact that the basic fee for the cable connection is usually billed by the landlord via the ancillary rental costs. The Statthalteramt Bülach, however, did not see any violation of the Price Disclosure Ordinance. According to Strapp, the authority based its decision on an earlier ruling by the Zurich Commercial Court, among other things. The cable network operator is pleased that the complaint was dismissed. "We never expected a different decision, but we are now pleased that this instance, like the Fair Trading Commission and indirectly the price watchdog, has not objected to our advertising," said Strapp. Sunrise did not comment on the decision of the Statthalteramt on request, as it was not yet available to the company on Sunday. The complaint against UPC Cablecom was specifically directed against a television commercial featuring actor Carlos Leal and comedian and former Miss Switzerland Stéphanie Berger. In Sunrise's opinion, the ad incorrectly refers to the basic fee of CHF 29.95 for the cable connection. (SDA)
