Change at the helm of NZZ Folio: It was announced Friday that Ulrich Oswald is stepping down as publishing director of the renowned monthly newspaper supplement after 15 years. Oswald took over the reins of the magazine in March 1993, shortly after its launch. Under his leadership, readership grew steadily to over 600,000, and the Folio has been in the black since 1999, now in the seven-figure range.
In a personal statement, Oswald cited "chemistry" and diverging ideas about the future direction of magazines within the company as the reasons for his departure. "In addition, the Folio will come of age next year. A good moment, therefore, to step down," he further stated. NZZ AG plans to consolidate its magazines under one roof. The management will place responsibility for "Marketing Magazines" in the hands of Daniel Strobel.
He has his own plans for the future, but will continue to work on a part-time basis on a project at NZZ in the coming months, Oswald writes in his press mailing.
