TV highlights 2020 - and the Goldbach bosses as Gian and Giachen

Screen-up is turning 20 and is celebrating in its usual visually stunning style: The Swiss TV industry’s preview extravaganza once again drew more than 1,000 guests to Hall 622 in Oerlikon. There, they were treated to live music, stars and starlets, as well as the Goldbach executives dressed as Graubünden ibexes.

The twentieth edition of Screen-up is over - and it was, as they say, "bang and grind" in Hall 622 in Oerlikon. More than 1,000 guests from TV production, marketing and advertising met for the industry get-together, which in its usual manner favored good entertainment over hard numbers.

The latter may have its reasons: The medium of TV is coming under pressure and has to defend its pole position in the media mix more and more. Against this backdrop, the narrative of "special effectiveness" is always given a certain (over)emphasis at relevant events; CPMs and the like tend to be left out. Instead, a bit of TV romanticism is allowed, including a best-of of old commercials from the "golden age".

But behind this, of course, there is a calculation. Because the makers of Screen-up have understood one thing quite cleverly and have meanwhile perfected the implementation: You don't throw Excel sheets at advertisers, you pick them up where they want to meet their own customers - with their feelings.

SRG: Sports, entertainment and politics

In 2020, SRG with its enterprise units SRF, RTS and RSI is focusing on international sporting events, among other things: Live events such as Uefa Euro 2020, the Summer Olympics in Tokyo or the Ice Hockey World Cup in their own country, as well as the Swiss Federal Anniversary Wrestling Festival, should ensure very good reach, according to those responsible.

Entertainment formats such as "SRF bi de Lüt," "Happy Day" and the new six-part series "Frieden" also get underway. And: Once again, SRG is dedicating itself to its public service mission by broadcasting and classifying global issues - such as the 2020 elections in the USA or the 2019 elections in Switzerland.

RTL: Live television, but please be creative

RTL also wants to prepare various approaches to creative live television for the coming season. In addition to the live show "Die Passion," these include a live documentary of open-heart surgery as the highlight of a theme day.

RTL also has two drama series in its quiver, "Der König von Palma" and "Faking Hitler," which are based on true events.

3-plus group: casting in every variation

Casting shows remained high on the screen-up, with the 3-Plus Group in particular focusing on them. In addition to popular formats like "The Bachelor," "The Bachelorette" and "Bauer, ledig, sucht...," the station group is now bringing "The Voice" back to Switzerland. 3 Plus unceremoniously transformed the stage of the screen-up into "The Voice" studio for the occasion: Anna Rossinelli and Noah Veraguth as jury members presented a duet.

Romandie: A lot of feeling and "French charm

In addition to German-language TV stations, French-language stations also presented their highlights. TF1 Group, the private station group with the highest audience share in French-speaking Switzerland, relies on in-house productions such as "A Mother Commits a Bank Robbery" and spikes its programming "with French charm and a lot of emotion.

The French M6 Group is also about strong feelings. In addition to various series and formats for the whole family, M6 will produce a novelty with "Qui veut être mon associe? The French adaptation of "Die Höhle der Löwen" is expected to be a successful format that will interest many viewers.

Max Mutzke and the Goldbach bosses

Various presenters and TV celebrities then led the audience through the day in a correspondingly emotional manner - sometimes wittily, sometimes with a good deal of pathos.

The program highlights that the broadcasters are planning for 2020 are clearly summarized below. Admittedly, the highlights of this screen-up edition took place rather live: Max Mutzke took to the stage, presenting the format's expansion into Switzerland as the freshly crowned "Masked Singer" winner. The popular singer with the unmistakable voice was well received and a successful surprise.

Speaking of surprise: Alexander Duphorn and Michi Frank, the omnipresent Goldbach bosses, showed great courage in self-irony and advertising irony and had themselves mounted in various classic spots.

Duphorn, for example, shines as a Coca-Cola delivery man in a female-staffed office, Frank was pleased that his blond wig kept its shape even in the storm (you know...hairspray!). In the end, both came together as Gian and Giachen in the Swiss mountains. And you couldn't help but think: for all the impressive show, this humorous bit was actually the greatest cinema of all.
