Thomson Reuters sells health data division

The data service provider Thomson Reuters has sold its healthcare data business. A private investor purchased the data for $1.25 billion.

The financial data services provider is thus focusing more strongly on its core business worldwide. Group CEO Jim Smith made the announcement on Monday in New York, according to SDA. The buyerVeritas Capital put the price on the table in cash and will therefore take over the division in the coming months. The division's customers include clinics, authorities and experts in medicine and the healthcare system.

In June last year, Reuters announced plans to sell its healthcare business. However, the data service provider withdrew its plans in the meantime due to the fluctuations on the stock markets. The Group explained in December that it was hardly possible to achieve an appropriate value for the division under these conditions.
